Q & A with patricia brinkley

The questions I get asked most frequently are:

  • Southern border: Craig Road

Eastern border: Nellis Air Force Base

Western boarder: Valley Drive (it zigzags to Aviary Way past Aliante Parkway and continues past the 215)

    Northern border: the 215

  • Government Branches: Nevada has three branches: the Executive (Governor), Legislative (21 Senators and 42 Assembly members), and Judicial.

District Representation: Each Senate seat covers two Assembly seats. In our district, these are Assembly District 1 (Republican Candidate Garland Brinkley) and Assembly District 17 (Republican Candidate Robert Olson).

Terms: State Senators serve for four years; Assembly members serve for two years.

Powers: The Legislature meets for four months every other year, but it has a lot of power. It passes bills, which the Governor can sign into law or veto. If vetoed, the Legislature can override the veto if one party has a supermajority.

Impact: The Legislature affects many parts of our lives, like education, business rules, elections, DMV, licensing, insurance, gas prices, transportation, healthcare, and public safety.

  • 1. Pass a budget for the Governor

    3. Pass bills

    4. Override the Governor’s veto if needed

    5. Impeach any Constitutional Officeholder if necessary
